Frequently Asked Questions

What is a TIFF file?

TIFF (Tag Image File Format) is a file format for storing high-quality raster graphics images. It's commonly used in photography, publishing, and medical imaging due to its lossless compression and ability to handle multiple layers and pages. Unlike formats like JPEG, TIFF preserves all image data without quality loss.

Why can't I view TIFF files directly in my browser?

Most web browsers don't natively support TIFF rendering due to the format's complexity and large file sizes. Our viewer converts TIFF files to browser-compatible PNG format in real-time, allowing you to view, annotate, and edit them without any special software. This conversion happens entirely in your browser - your files never leave your device.

How do I add annotations to my image?

To annotate:

  1. Upload your image
  2. Select 'Add Text' or 'Marker' from the Annotations section
  3. Click on the image where you want to place the annotation
  4. For text annotations, click the text to edit content
  5. Drag to reposition annotations
  6. Use the 'Show/Hide' toggle to manage visibility

All annotations are included when you export the image.

How do I navigate large images?

For large, high-resolution images:

  • Zoom: Use Ctrl+Scroll or the zoom controls
  • Pan: Select the pan tool and drag the image
  • Reset: Use the 'Reset All' button to return to default view
  • Rotation: Use the rotate button to change orientation

The viewer can handle images up to 50MB in size with smooth navigation.

What image formats can I export to?

When you export your edited image, we convert it to PNG format. This preserves all edits, annotations, and image quality while creating a web-friendly file. PNG was chosen because:

  • Supports lossless compression
  • Maintains transparency
  • Widely compatible across devices
  • Preserves high image quality

The original TIFF file remains unchanged on your device.

Is my image data secure?

Absolutely. Our viewer operates entirely in your browser:

  • No image data is sent to any server
  • Processing happens locally on your device
  • Files are never stored or transmitted
  • No account or login required

When you close the browser tab, all processed image data is cleared automatically. For extra security, use the viewer in private browsing mode.

Why are my image adjustments not showing?

If your brightness/contrast/saturation adjustments aren't visible:

  • Ensure you've selected the correct image (check filename)
  • Verify the adjustment sliders are not at default (100%)
  • Check if 'Show Annotations' is enabled if you added markers
  • Try resetting with the 'Reset All' button
For very large images (30MB), adjustments may take a moment to render. If issues persist, try refreshing the page and re-uploading your file.

Can I use this for professional work?

Yes! Our TIFF Viewer is suitable for professional use:

  • Handles high-resolution images up to 50MB
  • Preserves image quality during editing
  • Supports professional workflows with annotations
  • Maintains color accuracy during adjustments

It's particularly useful for photographers, graphic designers, medical imaging professionals, and archivists who need to work with high-fidelity images without specialized software.
